We are committed to empowering both teachers and students through interdisciplinary workshops. These workshops are a strategic solution to the challenges faced by teachers in implementing the competency-based approach. We believe that quality education is the cornerstone of improving lives and driving sustainable development. By fostering a deeper connection between subjects and practical skills, we aim to build a stronger, more capable future generation.
Context
Since its introduction seven years ago, the competency-based approach has transformed teaching practices in Cameroon. While this approach meets the demands of today’s society, progress in its practical implementation remains limited, particularly in teacher training.
To address this gap, the German Teachers Association of the Central Region and LCE-Cameroon have teamed up to develop a project that enhances the practical competencies of both German teachers and learners through interdisciplinary workshops.
Objective
This project aims to develop the competencies of both teachers and learners to optimize the use of the competency-based approach, stimulate creativity in both teachers and students, present lessons in a fun and engaging way to enhance the learning experience, showcase the interdisciplinary nature of teaching German, and boost motivation for both teachers and students.
Interdisciplinarity
For example: we believe that teaching a foreign language is inherently interdisciplinary. In Cameroon, the teaching of German, Spanish, and English is structured around five key modules: family and socio-cultural life, environment, health and well-being, economic life, media and communication, and citizenship.
Through this approach, learners develop practical skills that span across various subjects like biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and economics, fostering a deeper and more holistic understanding of the language.
